FISH ON!!!!!

I like fishing. Not actual fishing – I like the peace and quiet of being at sea. It’s different.

-Rafael Nadal

“Fish on!” was always the shout you would hear from my dad whenever there would be a fish on one of our fishing lines. Sometimes he liked to fool us and shout it just to see us rush over to the pole and grab it out of the holder. But memories of fishing on Lake Michigan and smaller lakes like Lower Lake in Hastings, MI are so much part of my life and memories. I’m thankful for a dad that would take me out fishing even if I wasn’t always into holding the fish I caught or baiting my hook. He still would bring me and it’s something I do like to do to this day.

Now that I have kids. They enjoy going out fishing with grandpa. Still you will hear his signature “fish on” while watching videos he took of the kids reeling in a fish. The memories my dad built with me and now seeing my kids develop some of the same memories is so wonderful!

All this fish talk brings me to our next FAMILY FUN event. The Kalamazoo Nature Center in Kalamazoo, MI is hosting a Family Fun Night: Fishing Fun. Here you and your family can learn about our fish here in Michigan and how much fun you can still have fishing in the winter months! With it being FREE fishing weekend on February 15th and 16th. This would be a great event to go to so that you can brush up on your fishing knowledge and just add some extra excitement for the sport. Also, there will be games and prizes to enjoy!

When: February 7, 2020 from 6-7:30 pm
Cost: $5/person or $7/non-member

**As always, we would love to hear about your experience. Please feel free to comment!
