“Of all the liars in the world, sometimes the worst are our own fears.”
– Rudyard Kipling
Every one of us near and far have been hit with the social distancing due to the Corona Virus. Although, staying home and slowing down can be very frustrating. I also see it as a blessing in disguise. This past week I have had my life slow down tremendously. Before all of this virus scare, at least one of my kids had something going on 3-4 nights a week. Not including doctor appointments and school events during the day time. But during the first full week of staying home. I have been more at peace and feeling way more connected to my family than I have in a while.
One of the things I find important for my family to do is to get outside. This week has been a little chilly but for a few minutes it can really help their attitudes and work ethic. So one of these past days I took my kids and one of their friends over to the sledding hill near our house. They had so much fun just running up and down that huge hill over and over again. They even decided to change it up and roll down it. Hearing their giggles and smiling faces made all the chaos in the world disappear for a moment. I really enjoyed spending time fully plugged into what they were doing and not worrying about getting them from one place to the next.
After the hill excitement. The kids and I went for a little stroll in our neighborhood. It felt so good to get a breath of fresh air. They enjoyed getting in some active time too.
Over the next couple weeks. Get your kiddos outside and enjoy the fresh air with them. I know what’s going on in the world is super tough. But take advantage of the time you can spend with those you love most.
**Please feel free to share your outdoor memories too!
“I’m a bowling pin, even when I fall I’ll always stand back up.”
– Jay Park
I’m definitely not a bowling pro but sometimes doing things you’re not the greatest at can be a lot of fun too! A couple weekends ago, we took a family field trip to our local bowling alley called Hastings Bowl. The kids had an amazing time. Just check out those pictures above and see the happiness in those smiles! Or even the little dance our littlest liked to do at times. They were super surprised when we pulled into the parking lot and hearing their excitement was priceless. This bowling alley was the place I used to go as a kid and I have great memories there. I’ve never been a serious bowler but I enjoy it out of pure fun!
Do you like to bowl or are just trying to find something to do out of the cold?! Give Hastings Bowl a go! Mondays from 8pm until close you can bowl for a $1.00 a game. This would be great for Spring break! Also, keep your eyes open for cheap bowling times during the summer break months. If you’re also looking for a place to host a birthday party. Hastings Bowl does an amazing job for a great price!
“Life is like an ice cream, enjoy it before it melts.”

Last year around this time. I took my first daughter to see a Beauty and the Beast musical. This musical was played out by a near by high school in Hastings, MI. She had no idea what we were up to. I thought it made for a great surprise and indeed it did! The smile on her face as she watched Belle act out and sing so beautifully. Some parts with the Beast made her a little nervous but not enough to take the fun out of the evening. My daughter absolutely enjoyed it at age 4. I even saw her singing along at times. She would love to go to more she said!
Although we are not able to go to this week’s performance of The Little Mermaid. I sure wish we were! But since it wouldn’t be kind to keep this great information to myself. I thought I would share what a fun mommy and me date night this could be for you too!
So March 12 -14, 2020. The Hastings High School will be performing The Little Mermaid. Start time is at 7 pm every day with an additional performance on Saturday at 2 pm. This will also be held at their Performing Arts Center which is fantastic!
As a mother of three active kiddos. I know how expensive sporting events, allowing your kids to participate, equipment, etc can be. When our oldest started playing sports. It didn’t seem to be such a big deal to find ways to save on items he needed for each sport. But now with all three enjoying some kind of sport year round. Having the option to by gently used sporting equipment has become a major blessing!
If you are in the same boat and are near to the Middleville, MI area. Come check out the TAPRC Used Sports Equipment Sale on March , 2020. The sale is free starting at 9 am and ends at 3 pm. You do have the option to pay $5 for early bird access starting at 8:30 am.
“A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.”
– Wayne Gretzky
At the end of last year. My husband and I took our oldest son and his friend to a Grand Rapids Griffins hockey game. This had been my first professional game ever! I was excited, nervous, and had a lot of mixed emotions! I had heard about people getting hit by the puck in the stands. Which did happen while we were there. And the fights these guys get themselves into. Goodness gracious!! But in the end. I had a lot of fun. My husband and I were able to enjoy a few laughs and chats. We also got to see the excitement on our son’s face as he experienced his first hockey game ever. The boys had a ton of fun! Although they were a little shy when trying to win a shirt or some other keepsake they launched into the crowd. They sure did try though!
This new adventure for us wouldn’t have been as likely to happen if it weren’t for the summer reading program our kids did over the summer of 2019. Due to them participating, they each earned free tickets to a game. Seeing the cost of tickets. I was so glad I took advantage of the summer reading program with my kids. Additionally, the night we went ended up being Military Appreciation night. This allowed for my husband to get tickets for us adults at a discount too! I love the support this hockey organization shows its community. By supporting kids to read and its Armed Forces.
Want to attend a game yourself but need help with cost?!?! Currently, the Griff’s Reading Goals program is going on (just in time for March’s reading month!). This is for anyone within the Kent ISD or Ottawa Area Intermediate School District. I know my son came home with the book mark so check your child’s folder/backpack for one too! Anyone Pre-K – 8th grade can participate. Kids are able to earn prizes during their first and second hours of reading. Those who end up reading three hours will receive two FREE game tickets!
Everything Disney always seems so magical. It doesn’t matter to your child if your at Disney World or Disneyland or even Grand Rapids, MI. Seeing their favorite characters up close in person just makes their cute faces light up and brings joy into their hearts. This is why Disney on Ice is one of my favorite Disney events. I know it’s super hard to pack up the family and take big long, expensive trips. So while I may be waiting to do one of those Disney World adventures. Being able to take my daughters to see their favorite princesses at the Disney on Ice show would be just as awesome for them!
I remember going as a child myself. It brought so much excitement within me! I was so surprised when we got there. I also remember getting a “Chip” cup (Beauty and the Beast) with flavored ice inside. I used that cup for a while after at home!
If you are interested in going. You’re just in luck! Starting February 27 – March 1, 2020. Disney on Ice will be at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI! The show is called Celebrate Memories. Your kids will be able to see Toy Story characters, Moana, Frozen characters, Minnie Mouse, and so many more! If you’re able to splurge a bit. Check out the VIP Experience!
Has anyone else here felt overwhelmed with the busy life schedule that seems to develop over the school year?!?! I know I have at times! My 3 kiddos are ALL in some kind of activity. From wrestling to cheer and now gymnastics for the youngest. There is never a night Monday through Friday to kick back and relax. So the last thing I sometimes want to do is COOK!

The free meal includes a 4 count nugget, small waffle fry, drink, and a toy or ice Dream. There is an age limit which is 12 years old and under.

“My father didn’t tell me how to live. He lived, and let me watch him do it.”
-Clarence Budington Kelland
The relationship between a father and daughter is very important. He is her first impression of what a male figure looks like in her life. This can help guide her when she is in search of a husband or male friends in general. The way her father treats her and her mother will help her to see how other males should or shouldn’t treat her in the future.
I have seen many recent Facebook posts about Father/Daughter dances. My oldest daughter and her dad were scheduled to go to one this past Saturday. Unfortunately, she caught the stomach bug and wasn’t able to attend. The disappointment was written all over her face. She very much was looking forward to getting all dolled up and having time with just her dad.
Did you have something come up too? Or just haven’t given these events much thought? Have a change of mind and think this would be a great bonding time for your daughter and her father? Don’t fret! There is an awesome Father Daughter Banquet being hosted by WCSG.
The Father Daughter Banquet is on March 26, 2020. This event will be held at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville, MI. There will be food and LIVE entertainment. Some performers that will be there are For All Seasons and Carrollton. What a perfect time to let your little princess dress up and enjoy some time with her dad!
